ACE Utilities & Report Writer

Your system should bend. Not break.

Most ERP systems lock you in. When your process changes, when you need a custom report, when a unique workflow emerges, you’re stuck waiting on vendors, paying consultants, or working around the software. Rover’s ACE Utilities give you the power to adapt the system yourself without breaking future upgrades or compromising security.

Core Capabilities

What ACE Utilities actually do

Each utility handles a different dimension of system adaptability. Together, they give you end-to-end control over how Rover behaves, who can access what, how processes run, and how data gets extracted.

Integrated Development Environment (IDE)

The IDE is where you make the system yours. Add fields, modify screens, adjust workflows, create lookups. You’re not editing configuration files in a text editor or submitting change requests. You’re using a drag-and-drop form designer and a complete data dictionary to reshape the application.

Drag-and-Drop Form Designer

Add fields to any screen. Change layouts. No coding required for standard modifications.

Data Dictionary Control

Define new data fields, relationships, and validation rules that persist across the entire system.

User-Defined Lookups

Create dropdown lists, validation tables, and reference data specific to your industry or process.

Program Editor

For advanced customization, a full program editor lets you write logic directly into the application.

Security Manager

Your data isn’t equally sensitive. Some users need full access. Others need read-only. Some need visibility into certain customers or cost centers but not others. The Security Manager gives you granular control over who sees what, who can change what, and who can approve what.

Individual User Profiles

Define security by user, not just by role. Jeff in purchasing has different access than Maria in purchasing.

User Templates

Create role-based templates (e.g., “Shop Floor Supervisor”) and apply them consistently across users.

View, Add, Change, Delete Rights

Control not just who accesses screens, but what actions they can perform once inside.

File-Level Access Control

Restrict access to individual database files. Sensitive pricing data stays locked down even if the user has customer access.

Process Control

Backups. Reports. Data exports. Maintenance routines. These processes need to happen regularly, reliably, and without manual intervention. Process Control schedules and executes recurring tasks so your system stays healthy without requiring someone to remember.

Scheduled Processes

Define tasks to run on a regular schedule: daily backups at 2 AM, weekly inventory reports, monthly GL rollups.

One-Time Process Queue

Add ad-hoc processes to the queue. Run a bulk data update, purge old records, or generate a special report without disrupting users.

Off-Hours Execution

Schedule heavy processing during nights or weekends. Users never compete with system maintenance for resources.

Report Writer

Getting data into an ERP is table stakes. Getting it back out, formatted the way you need it, when you need it, without waiting on IT? That’s the difference between a tool and a partner. The Report Writer lets any authorized user create their own reports, queries, and data exports.

Multiple Output Formats

Print to screen, export to Excel, generate PDFs, output to Word, or save as text. The data goes where you need it.

Point-and-Click Field Selection

Choose which database files and fields to include without writing SQL. If you can see it in the system, you can report on it.

User-Defined Criteria

Filter, sort, and summarize data based on any combination of conditions. “Show me jobs in Q1 that went over budget by more than 10%.”

Save and Reuse Reports

Build a report once, save it, and run it on demand. No need to recreate logic every time someone asks the same question.

The Real Cost

Rigid systems cost you twice

You pay once during implementation, accepting the vendor’s workflows even when they don’t match yours. Then you pay again, every time something changes. A new compliance requirement. A warehouse relocation. A customer asking for data you can’t easily extract. Each request becomes a ticket, a consulting engagement, or a workaround that compounds technical debt.

The vendors call it “standard functionality.” You call it friction. Your finance team exports to Excel because the canned reports don’t show what they need. Your operations manager asks IT for a screen change and gets quoted six weeks. Your CEO wants real-time profitability visibility and discovers the system wasn’t built for that question.

That’s not a software problem. That’s a control problem.

Meanwhile, your marketing team just sent an email campaign to 300 customers including twelve who haven’t paid in 90 days, three who specifically asked to be removed from promotional emails, and one who placed a $50K order last week and is now getting generic “new prospect” messaging. Your sales team finds out when the complaints start rolling in.

This isn’t a communication problem. It’s a systems problem. When customer data lives in silos, every interaction becomes a scavenger hunt. Your team wastes hours. Your customers notice. And the opportunities you’re missing don’t announce themselves they just quietly go somewhere else.

Speed Tax

Every modification request goes through vendor queue. Weeks turn into months. Opportunity cost compounds.

Consultant Dependency

$150/hour for a new field. $2,500 for a custom report. These costs never stop and never decrease.

Data Prisoners

Your data is locked inside their structure. Getting it out requires export scripts, manual manipulation, and prayer.

FAQS

Your questions answered

Will my customizations survive software updates?

Yes. Rover’s modification logging tracks every change you make through the IDE. When we release new versions, your customizations are preserved and reapplied automatically. You don’t lose work during upgrades.

Not for most tasks. The drag-and-drop form designer, point-and-click field selection, and visual report builder handle the majority of customizations without coding. For more advanced modifications, either your internal IT team or our implementation partners can help.

Absolutely. The Security Manager lets you define exactly which users can access the IDE, create reports, or modify security settings. Most customers limit IDE access to administrators while giving broader Report Writer access to department managers.

Our implementation team trains your staff on ACE Utilities during the standard 90-120 day onboarding. Most teams start creating their own reports within the first 30 days and begin making simple customizations (like adding fields or changing security) within 60 days.

You have options. Many customers handle modifications themselves after training. For more complex changes, Rover’s team can handle it directly or work alongside your internal IT. Unlike most vendors, we don’t charge consulting rates for every small change because you have the tools to do it yourself.
